How to Reach Jawai: Airports, Trains, and Road Routes
· 5 min read · Jawai Leopard Safari

Jawai Bandh sits in the Pali District of Rajasthan, nestled between the Aravalli mountains and the desert plains. It is not on a major highway, which is part of why the place feels remote — but it is accessible by air, rail, and road from most parts of India.
By air: the fastest option
The nearest commercial airports are Udaipur and Jodhpur, both major Rajasthan tourism gateways. Both have daily flights to and from Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.
From Udaipur (Maharana Pratap Airport): approximately 150 km, about 3.5–4 hours by road. The route runs south from the airport through Nathdwara (famous for its Krishna temples) and Gogunda, climbing into the Aravalli foothills, then descending through Ranakpur (known for its Jain temples) and into Jawai. The road is good and scenic.
From Jodhpur (Jodhpur Airport): approximately 172–180 km, about 4–4.5 hours by road. The route runs south through Pali and Sumerpur, descending into the Pali plains before entering the granite hills of Jawai.
Both routes pass through smaller towns and temple towns — Jodhpur via Pali (the district capital) is a bit more populated; Udaipur via Ranakpur is more scenic but slightly slower.
On arrival at either airport, you can hire a taxi, book a car in advance, or ask your accommodation to arrange a pickup. Many guests include their arrival and departure transfers when they book a safari with us — confirm this when you plan your dates.
By train: the scenic option
Three railway stations serve Jawai, all on branch lines that connect to major trunk routes:
Mori Bera Railway Station: about 5 km from Jawai Bandh. Limited train frequency, but accessible from Udaipur and Jodhpur.
Jawai Bandh Railway Station (Sumerpur-Jawai Bandh): about 15 km from the heart of Jawai. This is the named local station and receives trains from several directions.
Falna Railway Station: about 35 km away. Slightly larger, with more train connections, but the farthest of the three.
Trains run from major cities to these stations via Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Delhi, and Ahmedabad — often with changes. The journey is long (12–20+ hours depending on your origin and the train), but the slower pace and the landscape from the train window appeal to some travelers. Book well in advance and confirm current schedules with Indian Railways, as branch-line frequencies can vary.
From any of these stations, you can hire a taxi or arrange a pickup to reach your accommodation — usually an additional 30–90 minutes depending on the station.
By road: the independent option
If you are renting a car or driving your own vehicle, Jawai is accessible from most major Rajasthan cities, though the last 50–100 km are smaller roads through the Aravalli foothills and granite country.
From Udaipur: take the road toward Nathdwara, then Gogunda, then Ranakpur, then Jawai. Total distance roughly 150 km, 3.5 hours. This is a scenic route, passing through hill stations and temple towns.
From Jodhpur: take the road south through Pali and Sumerpur into Jawai. Total distance roughly 175 km, 4+ hours. This route is somewhat faster but more populated.
From Jaipur or other north Rajasthan cities: drive south via Jodhpur (longest option, 350+ km) or via Udaipur-Nathdwara (medium option, 300+ km). Most travelers fly to Jodhpur or Udaipur rather than drive from further north.
Roads to Jawai are decent — mostly paved, though some sections are narrow and winding through the hills. Drive in daylight if possible, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area. Fuel up in larger towns (Pali, Jodhpur, Udaipur) before heading to smaller villages around Jawai.
On arrival: safari and transport
All safari packages include hotel pickup and dropoff, so you do not need your own vehicle once you arrive. Confirm the exact pickup location and time when you book, especially if you are arriving by train or an unexpected route.
If you are hiring a vehicle, your driver or the hotel can arrange safaris and coordinate timings. If you are booking independently with us, provide your arrival and departure details so we can coordinate the timing of your drive.
Planning your journey
The busiest travel seasons are November through February (winter, best weather) and October (early season). If you are arriving then, book flights and trains early — seats fill up quickly.
For current railway schedules, check the Indian Railways website (indianrailways.gov.in). For flights, use any major travel booking platform. For the most up-to-date road information and drive times, use Google Maps or similar — road conditions can vary seasonally, especially in monsoon.
